La Palina vineyards.
This blog post marks the first of many, in what I hope to be a common occurrence on Wanderlust and Pasta — weekend getaways.
Living in Italy, you’re spoilt with choice as to the many beautiful destinations you can reach within a couple of hours. And, this little gem I am about to share with you was only a two hour drive from Padova.
Nestled in the hills of the Emilia Romagna region, Bertinoro could almost be mistaken for Tuscany. In fact, most of our friends including our Italian friends, thought we were actually in Tuscany.
Views from Bertinoro city centre.
Bertinoro is known to the locals as the “balcony of Emilia”, and rightly so. It is perched high on a hill overlooking acres and acres of vineyards, olive farms and fields of sunflowers. The views are absolutely stunning!
Truth be told, we didn’t even do much exploring while we were there so apologies for the lack of photos and tips. Instead we opted to chill by the pool for most of the weekend. I mean, can you blame us with that view?
Pool with a view.
We did venture into Bertinoro city centre on Saturday evening though, as there were supposedly food trucks lining the main street. When we arrived we found that there were in fact no food trucks, but a party in the town square serving fresh pasta. In true Italian style, there were hardly any people there yet as it was too early, so we decided to continue walking around a little and then head back to our B&B with some take away pizza for a relaxing evening by the pool.
Beautiful door in Bertinoro.
Honestly, as I said before we really didn’t do or see much worthy of a long blog post or city guide, but I just really want to share with you our amazing B&B.
One of the things we loved most about La Palina was the peace, quiet and tranquility. Not only is it nestled high on a hill, away from any main roads or busy city centre, it also only offers a handful of rooms. Which meant that whilst there were a few families around, we still enjoyed our privacy and quiet time.
Did I mention the views? Especially by the pool? Well, they were incredible and my photos definitely do not do them justice.
If you’re ever looking for a relaxing getaway and want some peace and quiet, I would definitely recommend La Palina. Francesca spoke great English and was absolutely amazing — made sure we were taken care of at all times, hand wrote a list of restaurants we should try and was more than happy to help whenever I asked a question.
We enjoyed our stay so much, we were even talking about how beautiful it would be to have our wedding there. All our family and friends could stay together, we could have the ceremony overlooking the vineyards and views, and dance the night away under fairy lights by the pool. I mean, does it get any better than that? Family, get on board please!
Here are some more photos from the weekend.
